CASE STUDY

The before and after pictures below detail the transformation of a riverside apartment in Chelsea Harbour.  The client's brief was simply to optimise the available floor space and create a chic, alluring and atmospheric interior in which to unwind and entertain friends and business associates

Absence of natural light made the entrance feel bland and uninviting and the busy strip flooring was dated and yellowed.  Broad Oak boards finished in a pale grey wax oil were laid to create a fluent foundation for the apartment's overall colour scheme and horizontal Antique mirror panels were installed as a reflective backdrop to gilt leaf wall lights and a complimentary gilt legged shagreen console table. The mirror on mirror effectively creates a striking visual impact upon entering the apartment and evokes the illusion of a grand scale of space.

The existing kitchen layout suited the limited space and the Gaggenau appliances were in perfect condition but the dated Oak cabinets were dull and dated. The cabinets were updated with a combination of Wenge timber and titanium gloss doors and a natural Moleanos limestone replaced the plain grey ceramic tiles.

The guest bedroom felt cramped and awkward with a single bed positioned under the window.  Smoked mirror panels were installed as a backdrop to a bespoke dark stained Oak and faux snakeskin headboard to increase the illusion of space. The ottoman double bed and custom designed mid-height wardrobe provide ample storage without crowing and oppressing the room.

A deep pelmet disguises boxed in pipework above the window in the Master Bedroom and the wall of sumptuous interlined silk curtains gives the low ceiling the illusion of height.

Bespoke Dark Oak panelling and lacquered floating media storage create a striking visual upon entering the sitting room.  All of the furniture was custom designed for this space, the unique curvy asymmetrical sofa positioned away from the walls creates a natural flow around the room and damson silk cushions, vases and other delicate accents punctuate the monochromatic palate.

The recessed ceiling lights were repositioned to highlight the beautiful upholstery and soft furnishings and glass bezels create subtle halos of light which illuminate the metallic wallpaper, Murano glass table lamps and mirror console. The cross legs of the polished steel side tables and silver clad wall mirrors optimise the illusion of space and add to the sense of glamour.
